www.namastepublishing.com ECKHART TOLLE'S teaching about the pain body is extremely interesting. I would like to find a piece in which he explains it from the basics. It's best to pick up a copy of "The Power of Now" to get a better understanding of it. My imperfect explination is that by trying to avoid uncomfortable feelings and experiences in the present, the residue of this uncomfortable and incomplete moment is stored in a "mental-emotional-bodypattern" complex of memory. This residue he calls the pain body, and it can be triggered back into reaction by any similar experience. It is then so easy to become identified with this body of pain (pain body) as a tragic heroic figure, and any re-exposure to a similar pain will reinforce the tragic-heroic identity that you are unconsciously nursing. Of course all of this unconscious behavior is totally counter productive because it drives you further into the same equation. WOW! Violent movies are not the problem, but rather how some people may respond to them. Also considering how his listeners are more often women, he didn't target Soap Operas, and what effects they could have. But rather something the majority can... "point at"... it's over there!

NC360: What is your source when you state most of Tolle's listeners are women? Is that an assumption or based on data? Most of the people I know who "get" Tolle are male. Either way, my bet is that most people who "get" Tolle are unlikely to be avid viewers of violent movies or soap operas.

The number is from many factors, being the roots of his popularity, to sound of his voice, and personal observation. Now when you refer to: "get", do you mean those who understand him? Because perhaps more men will be able to, but that was not my point. Either way, I understand his teachings because they are not new. But people who attempt to sell to the masses, tend to be quite flawed themselves. Also more like: unlikely to be viewers of any movies in general.

NC: His teaching are not new, neither were krishnamurti's, yogananda's etc .. there is nothing new under the sun, however, Tolle's new expression resonates with a good many people - that more people become exposed to universal wisdom is a great thing - those who are not ready will simply dismiss him and will pay nothing - those that appreciate and benefit from his expression of universal wisdom will not begrudge the small (if any) cost of his books, nor,I suspect, will they begrudge his success.
