Sting - Russians

Back

Remember when the Russians and the USA could have blown each other to kingdom come? This song is a reflection of that time. Great one in Sting's early solo career.

There is absolutely NO anti-russian sentiment in this song dude. Learn to successfully explicate songs before you discuss them. hence the lyrics "there's no monopoly of common sense/ On either side of the political fence." The song is merely an anti war protest song, more specifically the cold-war. And shows no feelings of negativity towards either nation, america or russia, it simply strives to protest the cold war.

Have you absorbed all the bullshit, the anti - Russian propaganda, from them? Because if you have, leave.

I lived in Kiev Ukraine for a year, and in Tbilisi Georgia for a year, I uploaded a video on this topic recently. Thanks for this video.

I always loved this song. I remember being obsessed with it when I was a kid (I was 11 or 12).... I was an army brat raised in the 70's and 80's. The Soviets were usually referred to as "Godless Commies". Ironically, I was pretty much a closeted Atheist since I can remember. lol I figured they (Soviets) couldn't have been much different them me... love their family, country, most are good people, etc..

Communism is an economic system, an ideology of sorts. Supporting this economic system does not make a person, "godless", especially when a large portion of the Russian population is Christian Orthodox, and follows religious events more than Americans. It can be argued that those who stand for "liberty", are godless, as they allow sin's to be committed in order to be able to retain power, in the name of "liberty". And most Soviets, do love their people, their family, their country and science.

Yeah, I know it's a economic system. I knew it back when I was a kid, too. I was just referring to the "Godless Commies" scare tactic comment I remember hearing a lot as a small child (even got call that for daring to do a book report in 4th grade on the country... little did they know they were half right. haha).

So let me guess, you are either Atheist, or Communist? I am Communist, so no worries. :)

Atheist before I was old enough to know the term.
