WNET went to 24/6 operation in the late 80's, guess WNET was one of the first PBS stations to have a 24 hour schedule. WTVS in Detroit during this time was also 24/6 station.

The closest they have to paid ads are announcements stating that the show is "supported by an underwriting grant from (company name and logo)", followed by an intentionally non-promotional comment about how the company supports public TV.
