joe zawinul (austria, vienna) and wayne shorter (New Jersey) were the head of weather report. 1977 joe zawinul wrote birdland influenced by Dinah Washingtons music. the song birdland earned 3 Grammys in three decades: with Weather Report, the Manhatten Transfer and in the 90s on the Album "Back on the Block" of Quincy Jones.

the song was written by josef zawinul (pianist) of the weather report in the 70s. The weather report were a fusion jazz band at that time, which might be why they could sound a bit 80s. Nonetheless, they are the creators of this song without a doubt
