Remember the pre-cable days huddled around the old black and white TV, fidgeting with the antenna to get WSBK TV38 to come in to see the Bruins?
And who can forget doing a jig to the opening tune by the Ventures ("Nutty")!
These clips are a little "grainy" and seen best when viewed in the smaller screen but they are a reminder of the days of watching the Bruins before NESN.
And, of course, the best Bruin of them all (and greatest all around player ever!) wore Number Four - Bobby Orr!!

Fellow Orr fans -- I put up a new Orr video with some highlights with original audio of his all-around play. The video is called Bobby Orr - Hockey's Greatest All-Around Masterpiece:

The NHL should retire #4. He revolutionized the sport. How many athletes changed they way a sport was played? I can't think of one other than Orr.

The skating wasn't as good back then because the skates were crap compared to what we have now.
Last year I bought new skates for the first time in almost 30 years. I finally replaced my vintage Black Panther skates from 1979 with cheap $30 skates from Walmart. All of a sudden, I'm skating faster and ziz-zagging with ease all over the place.
It's easier for players to throw their bodies around body-checking. They are dressed in body armour compared to what the older players wore.

It's almost like he's out there by himself sometimes, beating hall of famers like they were pee wee's.

I do believe that Wayne is the great one, but Bobby is so MUCH better, that given the choice, I'd rather watch a Bobby Orr practice session than Gretzky playing in any type of NHL game (except for the playoffs). Can you imagine Orr in the all star skills competition? Game set and match goes to #4.
