VENUS w/ Peter O' Toole

Back

Acting legend Peter O' Tool discusses his latest & greatest - "Venus" brought yo you by Hollywood One on One and Miramax Films. 8 Oscar nods and not 1 win - yet. From imdb Maurice and Ian are successful but aging actors, close friends whose conversation revolves around theatrical shop talk and the infirmities of septuagenarianism. Ian in particular is fearful that death is right around the corner, so he agrees to let his niece's daughter Jessie move in to his flat to care for him. Jessie, a provincial girl in her early twenties, turns out to be a nightmare for Ian, a hard-drinking, rude, and dismissive twerp. But Maurice sees something else in the girl, a potential for humanity which blossoms under his kindness and gentle guidance. Something else blossoms, for Maurice, as well: romantic love for a girl fifty years younger. Surprises follow, all around.

It's so unfair he hasn't won an Oscar yet! But I think he has won in peoples' hearts and that's the most important! Talented and restless.....

I always thought Peter O'Tool was getting restless in his old age, and here's the proof!

Does anyone know where I can find the songs used in the movie?

O'Toole should've already won the Oscar for 1) Lawrence of Arabia, 2) The Ruling Class, and 3) The Lion in Winter. He's brilliant, and effortlessly carries any film he's in. That the "Academy" has not had the class to properly acknowledge him yet, invalidates it even more than it already has invalidated itself.

Thanks, Mr. Pogle... Both for watching AND commenting. I couldn't agree with you more. I don't know the details but I've heard he was offered an honorary a few years ago which he declined, citing more films to come. And, now, we have 'Venus'.

Fevercity and others, Yeah, Peter is on "The View" or one of the talk shows stating that he would rather get an Oscar for "a job of work". While the honorary Oscar wasn't really his cup of tea, then, it didn't show: His acceptance speech for it was eloquent, kind, and inspired, as one would expect. May he win the Oscar 2/25!

Peter O'Toole deserves an Oscar for his accomplished performance in "Venus." He is a golden talent, a silver-tongued treasure of a man, our lion STILL, now in his winter, but dazzling as ever. What a way with words has Peter O'Toole, who should have one for the acting gifts shown in "Lion in Winter" and "Lawrence of Arabia". Sure he's getting mileage out of interview taglines such as "sluttish young woman and dirty old man" but no matter--he is GOLD and may the Academy recognize him!
