Joni Mitchell is a brilliant songwriter/artist. Classy, clever. She used D&E etc. tuned guitar, clever picking, brilliant lyrics. Dido uses simple chords, yet her songs are so enduring, insightful and lovely. Not everyone can do or has done this in so many 'hit' songs over the years since te '60's.
