In the first refrain here he sang "pass the pipe around" and in the second refrain he sang "watch the sun go down"- so he actually sang both. He varied it as the situation required so to speak- when he sang with the muppets he sang "watch the sun go down" for both refrains. Just depended.

This is my favorite John Denver song. I heard a story about a young girl who was considering suicide. She went into her bedroom and turned the radio on......this song was playing. She didn't go through with it.........Wow! What an amazing song!
Go to hell, he was an amazing person, he did so much good, yes he had his issues but that only reminded his fans that he was human. Get over yourself, people are allowed to think what they want without your judgement.
