The romans had a position of Dictator which they gave to one man in a time of crisis for a 6 month period. Caesar was not the first dictator but I know at least one (Cincinatus) was before him.

"So there was never a dictator before the 1st century b.c.?" Yes. Technically the pharaohs of Egypt and the kings of Nubia were also dictators. So were the emperors of China. Caesar was just the first man to officially give himself that title. "The republic prior to Caesar's Rome wasn't a democracy anyway." That's true. Although before Caesar it was more democratic. There were no true democracies until around medieval times when some communities around the world started experimenting with it.

And who cares?

So there was never a dictator before the 1st century b.c.? The republic prior to Caesar's Rome wasn't a democracy anyway. Pretty much every society ever since the dawn of time (pretty much every one) bar 5th century athens was a dictatorship of one sort or another until the french revolution.

"Lies. why would you lie? first official dictator in history?? absolute bullshit." Go read a book. Julius Caesar declared himself "Dictator of Rome". The Romans suspended democracy and gave complete emergency powers to the emperor Julius Caesar. Why do you think Caesar was assassinated? It's one of the first things you learn in Latin class.

"Julius Caesar (first official Dictator in history)" Lies. why would you lie? first official dictator in history?? absolute bullshit.

haha i laugh about bush :) i hated him untill buddy threw that shoe at him... you all saw it... you cant deny... that was the greatest dodge ever... and then the fact that it was a reporter expressing something that if he would have done 10 years ago he would have been killed for... its pretty great.

its less great, though, when you consider that the reporter was beaten up in custody and is being charged with 'Assault of a foreign visiting head of state' or whatever.
