Rainier is not a word in English. However Americans speak a bastardised version of English which includes many "made up" words.
For example the word "misperception" is not a word at all. They are labouring under the misCONception that this is a word. However you will find this non-word in many American online dictationaries.
It is very confusing if like me you are a European trying to learn correct English.

Rainier is a comparative adjective from the adjective rainy. I agree it sounds funny and we don“t use it much but it does exist!
