This was really informative.
Now I feel like total shit planning to travel there soon.
What can a tourist remember to be aware of to minimize their impact?

Go, but spend your money with businesses run by locals. Maybe do some volunteering while you're there..

Last I heard they were reclaiming the National Park, stopping more develpoment, at least from the crossroads to the ruins...a golf course? whatever next? How about giving the people something they really need!!
I'm watching this space and forwarding to as many as poss'. Keep up the good work, and if there's anything that I can do to assist, give me a holler....
