Yeah when I was first starting out barre chords were so difficult for me. This is an awesome exercise.
The only advice I would add to this is practice on an acoustic guitar if you can, that way when you're playing on electric it'll seem even easier! If you start out on those soft electric strings, when the time to play something acoustic comes your fingers might not have the strength..
