Enrico Caruso - La Donna e Mobile

Back

Caruso singing La Donna e Mobile from Verdi's Rigoletto for Victor in 1907. The correct playing speed is 75 rpm which I did not know when I uploaded this record. I played it at 78.26 rpm. Some of Caruso's earlier records played at much slower speeds and I have adjusted those postings accordingly.

Caruso a legend, a man we need to day, but have not. The only one who could take his mantle was Jussi Bjorling.

Someone should remaster these precious pieces of art - maybe with modern digital equipment they could sound like perfect modern recordings... Then again, Maybe the poor sound quality of Caruzo recordings adds something romantic to them. It would be interesting however for once to hear how this particular piece would sound as a perfect modern record..

Maybe nobody will agree with this statement, maybe somebody will call it even heretic, but I think that Caruso and Pavarotti are the two greatest tenors of all time because they were, and still are, the most popular opera singers, along with Maria Callas.

Hallo dear castorp1981:You idiot, have you ever heard Ferdinando Ciniselli,Charles Hackett or Miguel Fleta? How can you say that Caruso and Pav were the greatest tenors "of all time"? There were too many "greatest tenors"! And at the time of Callas there were at least 60 other great sopranos (only in Italy). You have no idea poor man, so just SHUT UP
