it could be either your amp or maybe your pickups just suck...i know mine do. just buy a better amp and it wont matter if your pickups suck or not...youll be able to hear them.but i'de recommend getting better pickups later on. once' oyu know how to all of this.

what I usually do is turn my distortion all the way up and then pick the bridge pickup. that makes letting them ring a bit easier for me.

amp makes a huge deal!!! i went from a practice amp, and crappy OD pedal. to a larger epiphone amp with a metal master pedal... OMFG!!! the harmonics I can make happen and the chugging some palm mutes... o its heavenly in a metal way!~
