the crossover step forces you to keep moving your feet, plus it makes sure that you regain your balance after running one way. It might just be a mental thing , but it definitely helps.

i dont understand how thats better than just side stepping the whole time. the crossover would probably trip you up rather than help you

Good video! Thanks for posting this. I've seen the pros from Federer to Serena do this crossover step EVERY single time after they are pulled wide to hit a groundstroke. It looks and seems funny at first, but watching the pros do this really gave the crossover step credibility with me.
